10 Things Not to Serve at a Dinner Party
Ina Garten

Great Advice for Entertaining

1 Appetizers That Take Two Hands
You’re holding a cocktail having a perfectly nice conversation and some offers you a grilled scallop served in a martini glass. Ok, so what are you supposed to do with your drink?

2 Beets or Red Wine

I am a fan of red wine, so I have it and take the risk that it could possibly end up on my sofa. However, if you are serving buffet style and eating dinner on your lap in the living room, then you are just inviting disaster.

3 Three Rich Courses

It is important to balance the courses, so if you are serving a rich main course, start with a green salad and end with a baked fruit and a delicious cookie. Your friends will thank you.

4 Nuts
Many people hate nuts or are allergic to them. Unless you know your guests well, then avoid nuts.

5 Garlic & Raw Onions
Chicken with a ton of garlic can be delicious, but seriously you would have to know your guests really well to want to chat with them knowing that they will have garlic or onion breath.

6 Spinach & Poppy Seeds

One of us here at Twist is notorious for getting food stuck in their teeth, so please try not to serve spinach and poppy seeds. Also, can it be more awkward to just met someone and have to tell them that they have food stuck in their teeth, then you have to help him or her get it out of their teeth-awkward.

7 Corn on the Cob
Same problem as spinach. Although, I will do corn on the cob for close friends because I love it. If you have a crowd that you don’t know really well, then cut the corn off the cob, sauté it with some butter, salt, and pepper, and serve it in a bog bowl.

8 Two Fish Courses
Most people eat meat but fewer eat fish and seafood. If you serve shrimp or salmon to start then Ina recommends serving a traditional chicken or filet of beef for dinner.

9 Liver
Do I really need to say why?

10 Raw Beef or Raw Eggs
So, you probably would never order steak tartare, unless you absolutely know they are from a safe place. Do not try this at home and serve it to your guests..any raw meat or raw eggs. Sushi is a different story.
