Savory Bread Pudding

Ingredients:

2 Italian sausage links (3 ounces each), removed from casing

1 pound stale sourdough bread, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
3/4 cup sliced chestnuts
1 large golden delicious apple, peeled and diced
2 tablespoons chopped fresh sage
1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
2 teaspoons salt
12 grinds or 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
4 large eggs, lightly beaten
2 cups half and half
