Rustic French Bread

This is a crusty, wholesome loaf of bread...it's not the light fluffy kind you buy at the store.

Ingredients:

2 packets granular yeast
1 1/2 tsp sugar
8 cups all purpose flour, sifted
2 cups whole milk
2 Tbsp salt
1/2 cup soft butter

Preparation:

Dissolve yeast and sugar in 1/2 cup warm water. Mix all ingredients together with enough water to make dough hold together. Cover and leave in a warm place for 2 hours. 75 to 85 degrees is best.

Knead dough for several minutes and shape into two equal loaves. Place on a greased baking sheet and allow to rise for 1 hour. Brush with milk. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.
